7.1i iMPACT CPLD CoolRunner XPLA3/CoolRunner-II - Why is the readback JEDEC smaller than the original JEDEC ?

General Description:

The JEDEC I programmed into my device is 34 Kb, but when I readback the JEDEC from the device, it is only 27 Kb. Has some information been lost? Is there a problem?

This is not a problem. The readback JEDEC is smaller than the original JEDEC because of the formatting. The CoolRunner and CoolRunner-II JEDEC files contain some formatting and non-essential comment text that make the files easier to read, which makes debugging and verifying easier. When a readback operation is performed, the JEDEC is extracted without the formatting information, and as a result, it is slightly smaller.
