5.2i COREGen - F_IP3: Runner/XST hangs on PC with long file names when generating XST core

Keywords: COREGen, hang, XST, core, runner, windows, win, NT, 2000, XP, Gig E MAC, Ethernet

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When I generate certain XST cores with long component names, generation starts and proceeds to the first time XST is called, and synthesis seems to progress normally as indicated by the log file; however, the runner application fails to quit and let COREGen continue.

This problem may affect all of the XST cores. However, the number of allowed characters for a component name is different from core to core. This is because there are different directory path lengths, which affects the overall length of the path file names used by XST.

This issue has been observed only on Windows operating systems. On NT, the maximum file path length allowed is 260, while on UNIX it is 1024. The solution is to make sure that your file path file name length is fewer than 260 characters.

The path to a project should be relatively short (for example, not more than 10 characters or so) to work around the COREGen hang problem.

This problem has been fixed in the ISE 6.1i release.
