6.3i MAP- "ERROR:LIT - Device macro symbol is invalid comp in device arch" when I use the "-gm incremental" option

Keywords: PCI, logic, MAP, lib, pack, error, 5.1i, 5.2i, area group, insulation

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
My design passed Incremental Design in 5.x, but it now fails when I use the "-gm incremental" flag in 6.x. The following MAP error occurs:

"ERROR:LIT - Device macro symbol is invalid comp in device arch"

What is causing this error?

Using the "-gm Incremental" option on a design prevents constants from propagating to other Area Groups due to insulation rules. You can work around this issue in the following ways:

- Ensure that constants are propagated from submodules rather than the top-level area groups.
- Have each Area Group use its own constants.
