LogiCORE Gigabit Ethernet MAC v3.0 - Problems with Auto-Negotiation when using the TBI interface

Keywords: COREGen, Gigabit, ethernet, MAC, TBI, auto, negotiation, 1000BASE-X, PCS, PMA, synchronization, FIP3, FIP_3

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
The Rx Elastic Buffer used in the Gigabit Ethernet MAC v3.0 core with the TBI interface contains a weakness that results in unreliable operation of Auto-Negotiation. This problem is caused by differences in clock frequencies between the GMAC core and the device to which it is connected. This does not affect the Gigabit Ethernet MAC core that uses Rocket I/O for the PHY.

The Rx Elastic Buffer has been fixed to prevent this problem. To obtain this fix, apply the patch found in the Release Notes for the Gigabit Ethernet MAC v3.0 core in (Xilinx Answer 17129).
