6.1is3 Constraints Editor - Constraints Editor is writing an invalid constraint into the UCF file when the pin contains "( )"s

Description

General Description:

When I use Constraints Editor to assign pins that contain "( )"s, the following error occurs:

"ERROR:XdmHelpers:724 - Period specification "TS_Pads_23_" references the

pattern match "Pads(23)". Pattern matches cannot be used directly in

period specifications. Use a TIMEGRP statement to define an intermediate

group name for this pattern."

Why is this occurring?

Solution

The reason is that Constraints Editor is writing out an invalid constraint into the UCF file when the assigned pin contains "( )"s. Constraints Editor is going to pass the "( )"s to the TNM_NET name, which is invalid. It should strip out the "( )"s of the TNM_NET name.

To work around this issue, manually edit the UCF file produced by Constraints Editor, and change the TNM_NET name.

For example:

UCF produced by Constraints Editor:

NET "Pads(22)" TNM_NET = "Pads(22)";

TIMESPEC "TS_Pads_22_" = PERIOD "Pads(22)" 150 MHz HIGH 50 %;

Modified UCF:

NET "Pads(22)" TNM_NET = "Pads22";

TIMESPEC "TS_Pads_22_" = PERIOD "Pads22" 150 MHz HIGH 50 %;
