6.1 EDK - What are the required MPD and PAO files changes when moving from 3.2 to 6.1?

Description

Keywords: PSF200, PSF210, EDK, 3.2, 6.1 MPD, MSH, PAO

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
What are the required MPD and PAO files changes when moving a user core from EDK 3.2 to EDK 6.1?

NOTE: These changes happen automatically, when a EDK 3.2 project is opened using EDK 6.1.

Solution

1

The following are the changes that the user would do in EDK 6.1 (to move to PSF 2.1.0):

MPD FILE

1. Remove the PARAMETER VERSION line. This SHOULD NOT be specified in the file any more.

2. MUST move sub-options in the BEGIN mycore line to individual lines and call each of them an OPTION.

For example,
PSF200 : BEGIN mycore, IPTYPE=PERIPHERAL, EDIF=TRUE, HDL=VHDL

would become
PSF210:
BEGIN mycore
OPTION IPTYPE = PERIPHERAL
OPTION IMP_NETLIST = TRUE
OPTION HDL = VHDL

3. The keyword EDIF to specify implementation style has been changed to IMP_NETLIST

4. This is an optional but recommended step to stay in-sync with the latest in the MPD syntax.

For SIGIS=INTERRUPT ports, change the following
Psf200: LEVEL = LOW to Psf210: SENSITIVITY = LEVEL_LOW
Psf200: LEVEL = HIGH to Psf210: SENSITIVITY = LEVEL_HIGH
Psf200: EDGE = RISING to Psf210: SENSITIVITY = EDGE_RISING
Psf200: EDGE = FALLING to Psf210: SENSITIVITY = EDGE_FALLING

PAO FILE

1. Ensure that the <lib> <file> line specified does not have the ".vhd" or ".v" extensions specified.

The REVUP utility in EDK takes care of all the required transformations to have a smooth transition from PSF200 pcore to PSF210 pcore.

2

Custom IP must also be located in a directory named "pcores". This directory must maintain a specific structure, which is defined in the Embedded System Tool Guide.
