6.2 EDK OPB_PCI - How can I use less than six Block RAMs with OPB_PCI?

General Description:
When targeting a Virtex-II Pro device, the OPB_PCI core might use more Block RAMs than required.

Solution

This issue has been addressed in the latest EDK 6.2 Service Pack, available at:
http://support.xilinx.com/xlnx/xil_sw_updates_home.jsp
The first service pack containing the fix is 6.2 Service Pack 2.

You can work around this issue as follows:
1. Run "generate netlist" from the XPS GUI.
2. Go to the hdl directory of your EDK project, and open the <pci_peripheral_name>_wrapper.vhd file.
3. Search for virtex2p and make the following modification:

Change from:

4. Load an xygwin shell, and change to the synthesis directory.
5. Enter the following to resynthesize the PCI peripheral correctly for the Virtex-II Pro device:
xst -ifn <pci_peripheral_name>_wrapper_xst.scr

NOTE:You can safely ignore any warnings sent to the screen.
6. Exit xygwin.
7. Generate the bitstream as usual in XPS or ISE.
