6.1/6.2 EDK XPS - Using network drives for project directories can cause problems

Description

Keywords: network drive, EDK, XPS, PlatGen, server, mapping, path

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When running processes in the XPS_GUI, it appears to generate the wrong paths to the source files. As a result, the processes fail because the files cannot be found.

Solution

1

You must adhere to the following rules when mapping drive names:
- Map everything in lower case. For example, \\Server\Share will not work
- Do not have multiple directories in your server name. For example, \\server\share1\share2 will not work.

2

Use the Windows subst command to associate a new drive letter and path with the mapped drive. (From a command prompt type "subst /?" for more information to use this command.)

For example:
If the network drive Z: mapped to \\Server\DIR1\Dir2\

use the following subst command to re-map to another drive letter (Y in this case):

subst Y: Z:\

Then Y: will be effectively mapped to \\Server\DIR1\Dir2\ without the restriction of the drive mapping rules.
