6.2i ePD - Placing a Xilinx library symbol on a Viewdraw schematic gives: "vdraw-E-2254: Symbol file <family>:<component>.1 has unknown format - expecting version"

Description

Keywords: Innoveda, Mentor, ePD, eProduct, library, libraries, schematic, viewdraw, dxDesigner, symbol, innovedalibs.tar, lib, component, dashboard

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When placing a Xilinx library symbol on a Viewdraw schematic, ePD produces an error message similar to the following:

"vdraw-E-2254: Symbol file xc9000:xxxx.1 has unknown format - expecting version.
Aborting reading of database file"

Solution

This error can happen if the Xilinx libraries were obtained from the Xilinx Web site as a ".tar" file ("innovedalibs.tar") and opened on a PC windows operating system using a standard unzip program such as WinZip. Data corruption might occur when extracting data with the WinZip compression utility.

To prevent WinZip from corrupting the files within "innovedalibs.tar" (or any ".tar" file), follow the four steps below:

1. Open WinZip Classic.
2. Select Options > Configuration > Miscellaneous tab.
3. Uncheck the "TAR file smart CR/LF conversion" box. The box will remain unchecked until you change it again.
4. Unzip and import the data.

"Innovedalibs.tar" can also be correctly restored using "tar xvf".

Alternatively, PC users can download a ".zip" file containing the Xilinx ePD libraries at:
