6.2i XST - "FATAL_ERROR:HDLParsers:vhptype.c:172:$Id: vhptype.c,v 1.6..."

Keywords : HDLParsers, XST, error, generate, function, HDL Analysis

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
XST reports the following error when I use it to synthesize a VHDL design:

"FATAL_ERROR:HDLParsers:vhptype.c:172:$Id: vhptype.c,v 1.6 2001/10/12 21:32:28 weilin Exp $:200 - INTERNAL ERROR... while parsing Y:/williamr/case_numbers/539382/test_fatal/test_fatal/mplfsr2b.vhd line 1. Contact your hot line. Process will terminate. To resolve this error, please consult the Answers Database and other online resources at http://support.xilinx.com. If you need further assistance, please open a Webcase by clicking on the "WebCase" link at http://support.xilinx.com
ERROR: XST failed
Process "Synthesize" did not complete."

This error will occur if your design declares a function inside of the declarative region of a generate statement.

This is valid VHDL; however, XST is not expecting it and consequently gives an error.

To work around this issue, move the function from the declarative region of the generate into the declarative region of the architecture.

This issue is fixed for XST 7.1i
