6.3 EDK BSB - Ethernet Phy LED's on the Memec P160 Comm Module turn off as soon as the device is programmed when using EMAC Lite

Description

Keywords: emaclite

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
The Ethernet Phy on the Memec P160 Comm Module does not work with EMAC Lite generated in BSB.

Solution

1

This problem occurs because a pin on the FPGA is connected to the Phy_Reset pin of the Phy on the P160 module and the EMAC Lite does not have a port to connect this to, so it is left open. To work around this problem, you can either add a GPIO port to control the reset pin of the Phy, or simply add a top-level port that is connected to VCC as follows:

Add this line to the MHS file:
PORT PHY_RESETn = net_vcc, DIR = OUT

Add this line to the UCF file:
NET "PHY_RESETn" LOC = "C16";

This problem is fixed in the latest 6.3 EDK Service Pack, available at:
http://www.xilinx.com/ise/embedded/edk.htm.
The first service pack containing the fix is EDK 6.3 Service Pack 1.
