LogiCORE Reed Solomon Decoder v5.0 - Why can I not create a CCSDS RS(10,6) decoder?

Keywords: reed solomon, decoder, ccsds, n,k

When CCSDS is selected, the CORE Generator GUI will not allow the n and k values to be set to 10 and 6.

RS(10,6) is required by certain specifications.

When n is set to 10, the k value is shown in red unless values less than 5 are used. Why?

The data sheet explains that for CCSDS there is a minimum value of 6 that can be used for r (where r = n-k). RS(10,6) has an r of 4, so this falls outside the range of the core. This was a limitation that was carried over from a previous version of the core. The limitation is no longer necessary and will be fixed in a future version of the core.

Please see (Xilinx Answer 30176) for a detailed list of LogiCORE Reed Solomon Decoder Release Notes and Known Issues.
