7.1i Install - Segmentation Fault when installing on Linux or Solaris with pre-existing files in the directory

Description

Keywords: Red Hat, redhat, Solaris, OS, 7.1, core, dump, CD2, installation, UNIX

When attempting to install ISE 7.1i on a supported UNIX platform, the following types of errors are seen:

Linux/Solaris:
<prompt>/.../setup: line 163: 8834 Segmentation fault
(core dumped) $setuploc/xilsetup $switch $batchfile
************ setup done! ***************"

Linux64:
<prompt>/.../setup: line 166: 1574 Segmentation fault
(core dumped) $setuploc/xilsetup $switch $batchfile"

Solution

1

First check that you are installing on a supported UNIX operating system. The following UNIX operating systems are supported for ISE 7.1i:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 WS 32-bit
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 WS 64-bit
Sun Solaris 8 32-bit only
Sun Solaris 9 32-bit only

If you are using a supported OS, check out resolutions 2 and 3.

2

In 7.1i, the installation program segmentation faults if it sees files from another installation of ISE, such as 6.3i.

To work around this issue, remove all files in the installation directory that were left over from a previous installation.

3

If you are attempting to install multiple ISE 7.1i platforms in the same directory, remove or rename the following files between installations:

fileset.txt
settings.sh
settings.csh
