7.1i EDK Install - Installation Issues Under Japanese OS platforms (Windows XP, 2000)

Description

Keywords: PC, software, update

Urgency: Hot

General Description:
An error occurs when installing EDK 7.1i in the Japanese OS environment (Win XP, Win 2000). Early in the installation process, the installer halts with a Windows error message.

Solution

To install 7.1i EDK on the Japanese OS environment, please follow the instructions provided below.

Step 1:

For Windows XP:

Go to Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Advanced tab, change "Language for non-Unicode Programs" to English. For Japanese OS, this is set to Japanese by default.

For Windows 2000:

Go to Control Panel -> Regional Options -> General tab, change "Your Locale" to English and set "Language settings for the system" to Western Europe and United States as your default language. For Japanese OS, these are set to Japanese by default.

Step 2:

After you set this option, the installer will run and it will eventually report some more errors (on Windows XP machines). These errors will not stop the installation process. Clicking the OK button will eventually finish the installation.

Step 3:

Go back to your "Control Panel" and change the options back to "Japanese."

Step 4:

Due to language issues, the EDK installer cannot successfully install EDK 7.1i shortcuts under the Start -> Program menu.
There are two options for creating these shortcuts for Platform Studio 7.1i:

- Option 1:

Windows Script file which will automatically register all the shortcuts to the Program Menu is provided below. Double-clicking the ".wsf" file will automatically generate shortcuts in Start -> Program -> Xilinx Platform Studio 7.1i.
