Description

General Description:

When loading a back-annotated simulation that has the MULT18X18SIO in it, the following errors can be seen in ModelSim:

# ** Error: (vsim-SDF-3662) physical.sdf(4994): SDF construct maps to generic 'tpd_a_p' which is of an incorrect type or size. Expected type VitalDelayArrayType01 with 10 or 100 elements.

# ** Error: (vsim-SDF-3662) physical.sdf(5049): SDF construct maps to generic 'tpd_b_p' which is of an incorrect type or size. Expected type VitalDelayArrayType01 with 10 or 100 elements.

# ** Error: (vsim-SDF-3662) physical.sdf(5135): SDF construct maps to generic 'tpd_a_p' which is of an incorrect type or size. Expected type VitalDelayArrayType01 with 11 or 121 elements.

# ** Error: (vsim-SDF-3662) physical.sdf(5200): SDF construct maps to generic 'tpd_b_p' which is of an incorrect type or size. Expected type VitalDelayArrayType01 with 11 or 121 elements.

Solution

This is a problem with all ModelSim versions prior to 6.0d.

The issue has been fixed in ModelSim 6.0d and above. The problem is that the SDF parser in ModelSim is looking for all the SDF generics to be defined. This is not a requirement according to the VITAL standards, and this is why the MTI has fixed it in their simulator.

In ModelSim, the SDF errors can be turned off, by using the

+nosdferrror

switch in the vsim command line.

Care must be exercised to confirm that there are no other SDF loading errors prior to using this switch. The switch will disable all SDF related loading errors. The recommendation is to upgrade the version of MTI, rather than to rely on this switch.
