iMPACT 7.1isp2 running on Red Hat Linux Enterprise does not connect to the USB port (J8) on the XUP Virtex-II Pro Development System. When attempting to connect, iMPACT reports the following error:
"Communications with the cable could not be established. Check the cable connections and cable power source."
This problem occurs because iMPACT 7.1isp2 for Red Hat Linux Enterprise does not recognize the PID of the XUP (0x0009). To work around this issue, follow these steps:
1. Login as root and open the /etc/hotplug/usb.usermap file.
2. In the usb.usermap file, change the Product ID (PID) value for the xusbdfwu entry (the very last line in the file) from 0x0007 to 0x0009.
3. Save and close the file.
4. Disconnect and then reconnect the USB cable from the board.
5. Restart iMPACT.
Once this change is made, iMPACT cannot communicate with a Xilinx Platform Cable USB (PID 0x0007). To use Platform Cable USB, you must change the PID back to 0x0007 in the usb.usermap file.
This issue is scheduled to be fixed in the next major release of the software.
