8.1i ISE - Selecting links on the Project Navigator Software Manuals page gives a "<file>.pdf does not exist" message

Description

Keywords: Acrobat, Reader, 5, Windows, links, help, click, select, specified, docs, document, file

If I open the Software Manuals Help by selecting Help -> Software Manuals, the "manuals.pdf" file opens in Acrobat Reader. Now, if I click any link in the left panel of "manuals.pdf", Acrobat Reader issues a message stating that the linked document does not exist.

Example:

"The specified file docs/cgd/cgd.pdf does not exist"

Solution

This problem has been detected when using Acrobat Reader 5 on a Windows platform. Acrobat Reader 5 is unable to correctly handle a link to a ".pdf" file from within another ".pdf" file.

If you are using Acrobat Reader 5 AND you run into the problem of not being able to open links to software help documentation, you should upgrade to Acrobat Reader 6 or 7. The Xilinx Technical Documentation team has done extensive testing and found that this problem occurs only with Reader 5.
