Description

Keywords: iMPACT, PROMGen, 7.1i, Spartan, XL, XC4000

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
How can I create a PROM file for a Platform Flash PROM used to configure a mature FPGA (Spartan/-XL, XC4000)?

When using iMPACT/PROMGen 7.1.04i to create this PROM file, iMPACT GUI crashes after showing the following error message:

ERROR:Bitstream:14 - The device part "s30xltq144" specified in the bitstream file "P:\applications\gregoryd\600000_609999\603660\Test_7104i\top_modul.bit" is invalid. This file may be corrupted and should be recreated.

FATAL_ERROR:Bitstream:basbsbitfile.c:91:1.44.32.1 - Cannot load bitfile.

Solution

Only ISE Classics edition
http://www.xilinx.com/ise/logic_design_prod/classics.htm
fully supports mature FPGAs. These FPGAs. are not supported at all in ISE 7.1.04i.

Therefore, PROMGen 7.1.04i cannot identify the FPGA and gives an error message when generating a PROM file used to configure mature devices. However, Platform Flash PROMs are not supported in ISE Classics.

To work around this issue, use iMPACT/PROMGen 6.3.03i that has the necessary files to enable you to create a PROM file that can be stored in a Xilinx Platform Flash to configure a Mature FPGA.

This problem is solved in ISE 8.1i.
