7.1i ISE - Setting Configuration Filename property causes "Command line error: Multiple file specified"

Description

Keywords: configure, integration, projnav, Project, Navigator, Project Navigator

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When I set "Configuration Mode" and "Configuration Filename" for "Configure Device (iMPACT)" properties, and try to start iMPACT by double-clicking "Configure Device (iMPACT)" in the Source window, I receive the error message:

"Command line error: multiple file specified"

The command line sent by Project Navigator is:

Command Line is: exec {C:/xilinx7/bin/nt/impact.exe -intstyle ise -c "c:\project/test.ipf" -mode bscan -b "top.bit"}

Either the ".ipf" file or the ".bit" file needs to be removed for the command line to work properly.

Solution

Project Navigator is always passing "<iseprojectname>.ipf" to iMPACT, unless you put a value in the "iMPACT Project File" field.

To open iMPACT properly, do one of the following:

- Specifically identify the ."ipf" file to open.
- Use the default configuration file name and deselect Configuration Filename.
- Launch iMPACT from command line (impact.exe -mode bscan -b "top.bit).

This issue has been resolved in ISE 8.1i.
