8.1i ISE Text Editor - The 8.1i ISE Text Editor cannot display Japanese, Korean, or Chinese language input

Description

Keywords: Unicode, UTF-8 string, character, support

The ISE Text Editor is unable to input and display any East Asian language characters, including Japanese, Korean, and Chinese; it cannot process a UTF-8 string.

Solution

A patch for this issue is available at:
http://www.xilinx.com/txpatches/pub/swhelp/ise8_updates/unicode.zip.

The following are additional issues that are present after the patch is installed:
- The Find toolbar does not work with Unicode string. (Nothing happens.)
- "Find in Files" does not work with Unicode string. (Nothing happens.)
- The "Find What Combo" box does not display Unicode characters correctly.

These known issues will be fixed in the ISE 8.2i software release, which is scheduled for June 2006.

In addition to allowing the display of Chinese, Korean, and Japanese characters, the "unicode.zip" patch also incorporates changes made in the "euro_keybd_fix.zip" patch. See (Xilinx Answer 22538) for more information.

The "unicode.zip" patch should be installed over ISE 8.1i, ISE 8.1.01i, or ISE 8.1.02i. If Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2 for ISE 8.1i is installed after the "unicode.zip" patch, the patch files should be extracted again.

Changes made in this patch will be incorporated into ISE 8.1.03i and later software revisions.
