8.1isp2 MAP - Timing-driven packing crashes during phase 8.28

Description

While running my design through MAP with timing-driven packing enabled, it never gets past phase 8.28. On a Windows machine, I see DeleteInterpProc called with active evals, and on Linux a segmentation fault occurs. How do I get my design to map?

Solution

This regression from ISE version 8.1isp1 has been fixed in ISE version 8.1isp3.

Meanwhile, it can be avoided by setting the environment variable PL_NO_GRP_CLUSTER as shown below or by running MAP with timing driven packing disabled.

Linux and Solaris

setenv PL_NO_GRP_CLUSTER 1

Windows

SET PL_NO_GRP_CLUSTER=1

In general, any failure encountered in Phase 28 can be avoided by setting this variable which disables this non-essential algorithm.

For general information about setting ISE environment variables, see (Xilinx Answer 11630).
