9.1i CORE Generator - Core customization GUI has "blacked-out" or "garbled" GUI option boxes

Keywords: customize, black, graphics, graphical, display, unreadable, JAVA, radio, adapter

When a core customization GUI is opened for many IP cores, the options and display boxes are blacked out or garbled. The check boxes are black (cannot tell if the box is checked or not).

This is also specific to the type of core that is generated. The garbled GUI windows occur only when using JAVA-based cores. Newer cores (such as the Binary Counter v8.0) are C++ -based and do not exhibit this problem.

The most likely cause of this issue is an outdated or incompatible graphics card driver for the display adapter. The graphics cards with this issue, reported to Xilinx, are Intel 82865G, Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset, and ATI Radeon 9600. Updating to the latest graphics driver version has fixed the problem in most cases. In one case, the problem was solved by installing the Microsoft Default driver instead of using the card-specific driver.

Another way to work around this issue (suggested by Sun) is to disable Java's implementation of DirectDraw by adding "-J Dsun.java2d.d3d=false" to the command line (coregen -J Dsun.java2d.d3d=false). For more information, see:
