8.1i ISE - When I open a project in Project Navigator, a Missing Project Source Files dialog box reports: "The following project source files could not be found:"

When I open a project in Project Navigator, a Missing Project Source Files dialog box reports the following:
"The following project source files could not be found:"

This message is followed by a list of source files that could not be found.

Solution

There are three know cases for this message:
- The source files were moved to a new location that is different from both the original absolute path and the relative path to the project directory. In this case, use the Project -> Add Source option to add the source files to the project.
- The Project Navigator project and source files were moved to a new directory location. In this case, project source files not in the immediate project directory are not found.
- The project was opened with a different platform than the project was originally created on.

In the last two cases, Project Navigator cannot find the source files because it is looking for the absolute path of the source files as recorded when the source was originally added to the project.

This problem has been fixed in the latest 8.1i Service Pack available at:
http://www.xilinx.com/xlnx/xil_sw_updates_home.jsp
The first service pack containing the fix is 8.1i Service Pack 3.

After you have installed 8.1i Service Pack 3, Project Navigator should be able to correctly find source files as long as the relative path or absolute path to the source is maintained.

NOTE: The relative path cannot include traversing root or a different drive relative to the project directory.
