8.1i ISE - MAP process property; Map to Input function has inconsistent range of values for Spartan-3 netlist project

Description

Keywords: NGC, EDN, EDIF, NGO, size, inputs, function block

If a Project Navigator Project has Spartan-3 selected as the device family and NGC/NGO or EDIF is selected as the Top-level source type then the following applies:

When Implement Design -> Properties -> Map Properties is selected, the Map to Input Functions property has selectable values from four to six.

When Map -> Properties is selected, the Map to Input Functions property has selectable values from four to eight.

Additionally, changing the value in one location does not change the value in the other location.

Solution

The command line from Project Navigator that is used to execute the MAP process uses the Map to Input Functions value selected in Map -> Properties. The correct range of values is from four to eight. The default value should be six.

This problem has been fixed in the latest 8.1i Service Pack available at:
http://www.xilinx.com/xlnx/xil_sw_updates_home.jsp
The first service pack containing the fix is 8.1i Service Pack 3.
