iMPACT 8.1i sp3 (or earlier) running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux does not connect to Platform Cable USB. When attempting to connect, iMPACT reports the following error:
"Communications with the cable could not be established. Check the cable connections and cable power source."
This problem occurs because iMPACT 8.1i sp3 (or earlier) for Red Hat Linux Enterprise does not recognize the low-power Platform Cable USB product identifier (PID). Low-power cables can be identified by observing that the Model Number on the product label is DLC9LP (P/N HW-USB) or DLC9G (P/N HW-USB-G) as shown below:
To correct this problem, follow these steps:
1. Login as root and open the "/etc/hotplug/usb.usermap" file.
2. In the "usb.usermap" file, make a copy of the "xusbdfwu" entry that contains the PID value 0x0007 and paste it into the end of the file.
3. Change the product ID value in the new "xusbdfwu" entry from 0x0007 to 0x000F. You should have two entries after the edit as shown below:
xusbdfwu 0x0003 0x03fd 0x0007 0x0001 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000
xusbdfwu 0x0003 0x03fd 0x000F 0x0001 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000
4. Save and close the file.
5. Disconnect and then reconnect the USB cable from the PC.
6. Restart iMPACT.
An updated version of "usb.usermap" is distributed on the ISE 8.2i installation CD, so this fix is not needed for iMPACT 8.2i or later.
