The Project Navigator New Source Wizard cannot create a project at the root level of a directory.
For example, when I attempt to create a new project named "test" on the c:\ root, the Project Location field is automatically filled in as "C:\test" and the resulting error message is "The project location C:/test is read only. Please try another location." The error message is displayed regardless of whether the c:\test directory already exists.
This problem occurs when creating a project at the root level of any drive whether local or mapped from a network location.
You can work around this issue with one of the following:
- Create the new project directory in a directory other than the root of the drive. If the new Project Location is c:\projects\test, it should be correctly created by the New Project Wizard.
- Turn off the New Project Wizard and create the project directly. This option allows the new project to be created at the root level if desired. To turn off New Project Wizard, select Edit -> Preferences and deselect the "Use the New Project Wizard" option. This option is on the ISE General page of the preferences.
This problem has been fixed in the latest 8.2i Service Pack available at:
