AR# 23794 8.2i ISE - Using Virtex-5 and Reentrant Route mode fails with "ERROR: <top_module>.ncd does not exist"

In a Virtex-5 project, the Place and Route Mode is set to Reentrant Route. When the implementation or Place and Route process is run, the following error occurs:

"Process "Map" completed successfully
ERROR: <top_module>.ncd does not exist
POSSIBLE CAUSE: you have selected to route without having placed the design.
Re-Run PAR by selecting one of the following:
- Normal Place and Route
- Place Only"

Solution

The problem is that Place and Route (PAR) is looking for a placed and routed NCD file when PAR has not yet been run on the design. To work around this issue, run PAR before setting the Place and Route Mode to Reentrant Route.

This problem has been fixed in the latest 8.2i Service Pack available at:
http://www.xilinx.com/xlnx/xil_sw_updates_home.jsp
The first service pack containing the fix is 8.2i Service Pack 2.
