The MVL 3.1 MLD does not support the PLB GEMAC correctly. The MLD includes the xilinx_enet instead of the xilinx_gige, which results in compiler errors when compiling the kernel.

Solution

This problem has been fixed in the latest EDK 8.2i Service Pack, available at:
http://www.xilinx.com/xlnx/xil_sw_updates_home.jsp
The first service pack containing the fix is EDK 8.2i Service Pack 2.
