My design containing DSP components crashes during the MAP phase, after the following message:

"mapping design into LUTs"

NOTE: This Answer Record is a potential match for any case that meets the above criteria before version 8.2.3i. There can be other causes for this same failure mode. Solution

This problem has been fixed in the latest 8.2i Service Pack available at:
http://www.xilinx.com/xlnx/xil_sw_updates_home.jsp
The first service pack containing the fix is 8.2i Service Pack 3.

Meanwhile, to work around this issue, set the following environment variable:

Windows
SET XIL_MAP_NO_DSP_AUTOREG=1

Linux and Solaris
setenv XIL_MAP_NO_DSP_AUTOREG 1
