System Generator for DSP - Why is the output type on my Gateway Out different than expected? Why does my output data appear incorrect when viewing it with a Simulink Scope?

Description

Why is the output type on my Gateway Out different than expected?

Why does my output data appear incorrect when viewing it with a Simulink Scope? The output looks correct when I use the WaveScope, but not when using the Simulink scope.

Solution

This happens when you have a scope with multiple inputs, and one of them is connected to a MathWorks, Simulink source, and another is connected to a Xilinx System Generator for DSP block. The problem is that due to back propagation, Simulink overrides the output type and assigns it the same data type as the Simulink source. In some cases, this causes a problem because the Simulink type is fixed and cannot handle the necessary range to display the output data from the System Generator for DSP block.

To work around this issue, use two separate Simulink scope blocks. This will keep Simulink from back propagating the data type and allow the appropriate data type with a range capable of displaying the output of the System Generator for DSP block.
