AR# 24453 9.1i CORE Generator - Creating a Floating Point v3.0 IP Core from Project Navigator fails with message: "_pn: Fatal IO error: client killed"

Customizing and generating a Floating Point v3.0 Core using "Project -> New Source" causes ISE to fail at the start of generation when using the Windows platform. You can open the core customization GUI and change as desired but, after selecting 'Finish' the following error occurs.

"Generating IP...
WARNING:sim:99 - The Implementation File Type <Edif> is not valid for this core. Overriding with File Type <ngc>.
_pn: Fatal IO error: client killed"

A similar error occurs with the FIR Compiler v2.0 IP Core on a Solaris platform.

Solution

You can avoid this issue by generating the core from the stand-alone CORE Generator.

This issue will be fixed in the first IP update for ISE 9.1i.
