A control symbol that has been scheduled into the transmit pipeline might be lost when reinitialization is forced. This is not an issue for most control symbols, as auto-recovery is built in to the RapidIO protocol. However, it can be an issue when dealing with Link Request/Link Response control symbols.

Solution

Xilinx recommends setting the "Additional Link Requests Before Fatal" value on the Physical Configuration page of the GUI to a non-zero value. Most other vendors allow this functionality as well. By allowing multiple Link Requests prior to transitioning to a fatal error state, it will allow the RapidIO link to recover in the unlikely event that a Link Request or Link Response is lost.
