Xilinx Development Systems - How do I investigate a possible Return Material Authorization (RMA)?

Description

Please Note: This article is for Development Systems (Kits) RMAs only, not components.

How do I begin the process of investigating a possible kit failure or Return Material Authorization?

Solution

There are three types of Boards / Kits RMAs:

  • Electrical RMAs
  • Visual Mechanical RMAs
  • Administrative RMAs

For Kit RMAs: All kits must be returned to point of purchase, and must be within the 90-day warranty period.

Electrical RMAs:

  • If you suspect a possible electrical issue with the board / kit, then the first step is to open an RMA Case in the Service Portal. You will then be contacted by a member of the Technical Support team, who will help you debug the potential board issue you are faced with.
Electrical RMA requests through the Service Portal will not be processed until the associated Service Request is fully debugged and closed.
Once the Service Request has been debugged, and if classified an Electrical RMA, the WTS representative will inform you of the next steps in moving the Electrical RMA forward

Note: A technical support representative cannot approve the RMA. The approval must come from your point-of-purchase after a formal RMA request is submitted through Xilinx.
The technical support representative can inform you of this process once the Service Request has been debugged and the issue designated an Electrical RMA.

Visual Mechanical RMAs:

  • If you are requesting an RMA for a mechanical failure, please provide a picture of the problem to your point-of-purchase.
  • If you purchased the kit directly from Xilinx, you can proceed directly to the Service Portal to open an RMA request.
  • If you purchased the kit from the Xilinx Online Store, please select "I need to return a product that I purchased from the Xilinx Online Store" using the Xilinx.com online support form.
  • If you purchased the kit from your local distributor, please contact that distributor to open an RMA request on your behalf.

Administrative RMAs:

  • If you are requesting an RMA for an administrative error, such as incorrect quantity of kits delivered, incorrect kit delivered, or other administrative issues:
  • If you purchased the kit directly from Xilinx, you may proceed directly to the Service Portal to open an RMA request.
  • If you purchased the kit from the Xilinx Online Store, please select "I need to return a product that I purchased from the Xilinx Online Store" using the Xilinx.com online support form.
  • If you purchased the kit from your local distributor, please contact that distributor to open an RMA request on your behalf.
  • If you are not sure of the purchase details, contact Sales or Distribution
