AR# 25516 9.1i ISE - Project Navigator warning message appears in a pop-up dialog and the GUI becomes unresponsive

Project Navigator issues a warning message in a pop-up window rather than in the console window. Once the pop-up message window opens, Project Navigator appears to hang. Closing the pop-up window results in a fatal error for Project Navigator (_pn.exe). The message in the pop-up window is generally a standard warning message. The most common warning message to pop up is as follows:

"WARNING: ProjectMgmt - "<file_name>.ngr" line 0 duplicate design unit: '<module_name>'

The messages seem to pop up at random times but always occur after some type of configuration process such as Configure Device or Generate Programming File.

Solution

This problem has been isolated to a problem with the iMPACT plugin and how it registers messages. The ISE message manager is left in an incorrect state after this interaction and subsequent warning messages are not displayed correctly as a result.

The following are suggested ways to work around this issue:
- Use iMPACT stand alone rather than through the Project Navigator GUI.
- Close Project Navigator and reopen after every use of iMPACT.

This issue is fixed in the 9.2i Service Pack, available at:

The first service pack containing the fix is 9.2i Service Pack 2.
