12.1 Timing Closure - How do I analyze overall timing constraint performance?

Description

Using the Constraints Editor, I enter timing constraints that indicate the maximum period for a certain portion of my design, as well as other delays on another portion of the design.

How do I analyze these constraints to determine if the software was able to meet the actual delays and periods that I specified?

Timing Analyzer

To generate a timing report, follow these steps:

1. Launch Timing Analyzer from Project Navigator.
2. From the pull-down menu, select Analyze -> Against Timing Constraints.
3. Review the timing constraints that you want to analyze, and click OK.
4. In the timing report that is displayed, you can view your timing constraints along with the paths that are covered.

Command Line

To generate a post-MAP timing constraint report from the command line, enter:

trce <design name>.ncd <design name>.pcf -o <design name>.twr -tsi <design name>.tsi

where <design name>.ncd and <design name>.pcf are the MAP output.

The timing constraint report will appear in <design name>.twr & <design name>.twx.

To generate a Post-place and Route timing constraint report, enter the following:

trce <design name>.ncd <design name>.pcf -o <design name>.twr -tsi <design name>.tsi

where <design name>.ncd and <design name>.pcf are the PAR output.

The timing constraint report will appear in <design name>.twr & <design name>.twx.
