CORE Generator / Map - When I run map -u (do not trim unconnected nets), the resource usage is off and some things are still trimmed. The CoreGen resource estimation is incorrect and shows fewer resources than actually required

Description

When I run map -u (do not trim unconnected nets), the resource usage is off and some things are still trimmed. The CORE Generator resource estimation is incorrect and shows fewer resources than actually required.

Solution

This is a known issue. For some IP cores the -u switch does not properly protect all unused nets. To get an accurate result, either create a wrapper for your core netlist and run it through synthesis to generate I/O buffers or see (Xilinx Answer 17765) for details about a map environment variable.

PCs
