Spartan-3A DSP Video Starter Kit v2.0 - Why does the name of the CF Card directory appear to be older than the Spartan-3A DSP Video Starter Kit v1.0 release?

Description

Why does the name of the CF Card directory appear to be older than the Spartan-3A DSP Video Starter Kit v1.0 release? That is:

- Spartan-3A DSP Video Starter Kit v1.0 - VSK_v3_0

- Spartan-3A DSP Video Starter Kit v2.0 - VSK_v2_0

Solution

The release of the Spartan-3A DSP Video Starter Kit v1.0 was actually the 3rd VSK release by Xilinx. The first 2 were targeted at the Virtex-4 VSK Platform. That platform is now being discontinued.

Due to the release of the Spartan-3A DSP Video Starter Kit v2.0 being the second release of the Spartan-3A DSP Video Starter Kit, it was decided to synchronize the version of the CF Card with the release number of the Spartan-3A DSP Video Starter Kit. This combined with the character limit support, when reading from the System ACE platform, resulted in the somewhat confusing directory name. That is:

- Spartan-3A DSP Video Starter Kit v2.0 - VSK_v2_0

In order to avoid such confusion in the future, the names will be more specific about the VSK platform.
