How do I generate PROM files for Parallel Daisy Chains?

When I select a Spartan-3A device for a Parallel Chain, iMPACT errors out. How can I do this?

How do I select my downstream Parallel Daisy Chain width?

Solution

PROMGen can be used to generate these files. Following is a generic example of how PROMGen generates this kind of file:

promgen -w -p <format> -c FF -o "<path>\<PROM_filename>" -u 0 <path0>/<filename0.bit> <path1>/<filename1.bit> <path2>/<filename2.bit> -x <xilinx_prom> -data_width <8:16:32>

xilinx_prom = XCF128X:XCF08P:XCF16P:XCF32P

Following is an example for a MCS file for an 8-bit Parallel Chain with 3 FPGAs configured from an XCF32P:

promgen -w -p mcs -c FF -o "<path>\<PROM_filename>" -u 0 <path0>/<filename0.bit> <path1>/<filename1.bit> <path2>/<filename2.bit>-x xcf32p -data_width 8
