11.5 ISE - ISE no longer works after I install the programming tools

Description

ISE does not work after I install the Programming Tools. The XILINX environment variable has changed installation of the programming tools. 

 

How can I ensure that the ISE tools work again?

Solution

Xilinx does not recommend installing the programming tools (iMPACT) if ISE is already installed.  

 

To work around the problem, change the XILINX environment variable to point to your ISE installation, rather than to the programming tools location.
