AR# 32143 11.1 EDK - How do I migrate my old EDK designs into 11.1 when there are deprecated cores?

Keywords: design, revision, update, revup, version, migrate, deprecte, obsolete

When I run the revup wizard to upgrade my EDK 9.2i design to EDK 11.1, I receive a number of error messages similar to the following:

ERROR:EDK - IPNAME:mpmc HW_VER:3.00.b - Can not find valid MPD
INFO:EDK - Check the following for possible causes of not finding MPD:
- If HW_VER is specified in MHS, it must follow literal form X.YY.Z
- There is no Ip with given name
- Ip exists but not that version
- Ip (directory) exists but 2.1.0 MPD file is not available
- Ip exist in myip directory (only pcores is supported)

How can I migrate my 9.2i design to 11.1?

Follow these general guidelines to migrate your design to the new version of EDK:

1. Make note of the cores that XPS is complaining about when you try to bring your old EDK design into 11.1.
2. Hand edit the project's MHS file to change the version number of the old core to the version number of the new core.
2. Open the old core's MPD file and "diff" it against the new core's MPD file:

<EDK_Old>\hw\XilinxProcessorIPLib\pcores\<old_core>\data\<old_core>.mpd
<EDK_New>\hw\XilinxProcessorIPLib\pcores\<new_core>\data\<new_core>.mpd

3. Notice the changes in the PARAMETERS and the PORTS and make those adjustments in your projects MHS file. You will need to add all of the new ports and make changes to any currently used parameter.
4. Save and close the MHS file.
