With ISE 11.1, it appears that I am able to create a project in a directory where the path contains Asian characters. Are Asian characters supported in the directory path for Project Navigator projects?
Solution
No, Project Navigator incorrectly allows a project to be created or copied to a directory with Asian characters in the directory path. The underlying Xilinx applications do not support double byte characters (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean) in a file path and will fail to complete successfully.
In a coming software update, Project Navigator will be fixed to prevent users from using Asian characters in a file and path.
Filenames for ISE projects and for project source files must start with a letter (A-Z, a-z) and must contain only alphanumeric characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9) and underscores (_).
The directory path for an ISE project must contain only alphanumeric characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9), dashes (-), periods (.), spaces, and underscores (_).
