AR# 32620 11.1 EDK - How to connect to two boards with USB Cables to one PC using XMD simultaneously

Keywords: connect, port, usb21, usb22, xilinx_platformusb

Is it possible to connect to two FPGA boards to two XMD consoles from one PC at the same time? Two boards are both using USB Cables. The default XMD connect command always connects to the first board.

Extra connect options need to be specified in the XMD command so that XMD can find the proper cable.

Here is an example of how to set the options when two USB cables are connected while the processor is MicroBlaze.
1. In the XPS menu, select "Debug --> XMD Debug Options", Set "JTAG Cable" = USB.
2. Open etc/xmd_microblaze_0.opt in the project directory.
3. Make sure the content is "connect mb mdm -cable type xilinx_platformusb port USB21 frequency 750000 -debugdevice cpunr 1"
4. In another project's etc/xmd_microblaze_0.opt, modify the content to "connect mb mdm -cable type xilinx_platformusb port USB22 frequency 750000 -debugdevice cpunr 1"

NOTES:
1. The option "type xilinx_platformusb" can not be omitted when specifying the USB port.
2. The USB port number USB21, USB22, etc., are controlled by the Operating System. It is related to the power on sequence of the boards.
