AR# 33517 11.3 Virtex-6 Place - Crash during placement phase 1.1 when GTX component is LOC'd, but corresponding IBUFDS is not

My design is targeting a Virtex-6 HXT device and is crashing during placer phase 1.1 (Initial Placement Analysis).



Are there any known problems that cause crashes during this phase?

Solution


There is a problem related to the placement of GTX components that is known to causes crashes during placement phase 1.1. If at GTX component is LOC'd to a specific site, it is also necessary to LOC the corresponding IBUFDS component; otherwise, a crash might occur.



This problem is scheduled to be fixed in ISE Design Suite 11.4.
