AR# 33935 11.4 EDK - XPS GUI "Ports -> Make External" sets the name as __NOC__ for external signals

When you make ports external with the XPS GUI "Ports -> Make External" command, the port names are set to __NOC__ as shown:

PORT mpmc_0_DDR2_DM_pin = __NOC__, DIR = O
PORT mpmc_0_DDR2_Addr_pin = __NOC__, DIR = O
PORT mpmc_0_DDR2_BankAddr_pin = __NOC__, DIR = O
PORT mpmc_0_DDR2_WE_n_pin = __NOC__, DIR = O
PORT mpmc_0_DDR2_CAS_n_pin = __NOC__, DIR = O
PORT mpmc_0_DDR2_RAS_n_pin = __NOC__, DIR = O
PORT mpmc_0_DDR2_ODT_pin = __NOC__, DIR = O

How do I resolve this issue?

To fix this problem, perform the following:

  1. Select the IP's port that you want to make external.
  2. First, choose "New Connection". XPS assigns a net name to that port.
  3. Then, choose "Make External". A new external port is created with the correct net name.

A tactical patch is available to address this problem:

  • Download the patch for your appropriate OS:

http://www.xilinx.com/txpatches/pub/swhelp/ise11_updates/ar33935_lin64_patch.zip

  • Find and rename $XILINX_EDK/lib/< OS >/libMdtXpsGui_SAVPlugin_Gui.so libMdtXpsGui_SAVPlugin_Gui.<dll|so>_old
  • Unzip to $XILINX_EDK/lib/< OS >.

This problem is fixed in 11.5 as well as in 12.1.
