11.4 Route - Why does the timing score diverge on my design during routing?

Description

PAR failed to meet timing on my design. The final timing score is higher at the end of PAR than it was at an intermediate phase. Why did the router's timing score diverge?

Solution

The timing score is a sum of all timing violations. Two different timing scores are not necessarily representative of the Fmax achieved. The router may diverge in absolute timing score so that a higher Fmax can be achieved.
