NGDBuild - ERROR:NGDBuild:604 - Logicalblock <block_name> with type <block_type> is unexpanded. Symbol <block_name> is not supported in target <device>.

Solution

Solution 1:

This ERROR can be issued as a result of project file corruption.

In the project properties settings, try changing the target device to something other than your intended target device.

Save the project and then change the target device back to your intended target device.

Solution 2:

This ERROR message is valid if the portion of the design specified by <block_name> is a netlist and this netlist includes components and/or primitives which are not supported in the target device.

If your project is being re-targeted from one device family to another, make sure that you regenerate all cores in your design so that they target your new device architecture.

Solution 3:

This ERROR message can be triggered if a sub-module netlist in the design cannot be located.

Ensure that the netlist is available inside the project directory or is specified with a search directory option such as -sd
