LogiCORE IP 3GPP LTE Turbo Decoder v2.0 - Why are DSP resources not used for the MAX* algorithm?

The MAX* algorithm gives better BER performance and using DSP would save resources, sowhyare DSP resources not usedfor the MAX* algorithm?

MAX* is not supported in DSPsbecausehigh performance cannot be guaranteed. The data sheet (DS675) does say that tests have shown that 7 or 8 iterations of MAX SCALE is approximately equivalent to 6 of MAX*. So, the BER performance can be achieved using MAX SCALE and with more iterations.
If latency is an important requirement, then the fabric-based turbo decoder using the MAX* algorithm has to be used.
