Check to see if the editor setting in ISE Project Navigator is set to "Custom", and if there is a space in the path of the editor (because XPS will not be able to open any files).
To check the settings, go to the Edit menu, select Preferences -> ISE General -> Editors.
To work around this issue, change the Editor back to the default option (ISE Text Editor).
