1.4 Licensing - Auto-start does not work on a PC running Windows 95

Keywords: M1.4, FLEXlm, License Manager, auto start, Windows 95, Win95

Urgency: Hot

General Description:
I am using Windows 95, and the "Automatic start of license manager" feature does not work, even though I specified the correct paths for lmgrd.exe and license.dat and checked the "Start Server at Power Up" box.

On Windows 95, FLEXlm uses a registry feature that launches programs automatically. The "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices" registry is used to launch lmgrdw95.exe at power-on. This program scans the "FLEXlm license manager" area of the registry and launches an instance of lmgrd.exe for each service name it finds.

This feature does not work initially because "FLEXlm License Manager" is set to %Xilinx%\bin\nt\lmgrd95.exe instead
of lmgrdw95.exe

To automatically start License Manager upon power-up for Windows 95:

1. Copy flexlm.cpl and lmgr325c.dll to \windows\system.
2. Open up a FLEXlm license manager control panel, and set the paths for lmgrd.exe, license.dat, and debug.log. Be sure to check the "Start Server at Power-up" box.
3. Run Regedit. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices.
4. Set FLEXlm License Manager from %XILINX%\bin\nt\lmgrd95.exe... to %XILINX%\bin\nt\lmgrdw95.exe ...
5. Save and reboot. The PC will now launch lmgrdw95.exe.
