ChipScope Analyzer - How do you create buses in the waveform window with overlapping bits?

Description

How do you create buses in the waveform window of ChipScope Analyzer with overlapping bits?

Solution

Lets say you have a single bus in your design that is 8 bits wide and you want to split it into 2 smaller overlapping buses in the waveform window of ChipScope Analyzer tool. The bus name is foo(7:0) and you want to split it into foo_a(4:0) and foo_b(7:4). This would be overlapping bit 4 for each bus.

-In the Signals window on the left, select DataPort[0] through DataPort[4].
-Right click on the selected signals and select Copy To Bus-->New Bus. This will create a new bus that you can rename.
-Next, select DataPort[4] through DataPort[7].
-Right click on the selected signals and select Copy To Bus-->New Bus. This will create another new bus that you can rename.

You now have 2 buses with an overlapping bit in each bus.

NOTE: If you select a data signal and select "Move to Bus" instead of copy to bus, that dataport bit will not be able to be added to any other bus. Copy to bus must be used if you want to use a bit in more than one bus.
